March was surprisingly productive despite the fact that more than half the team was away on vacation for the first few weeks, and also we caught whatever bug has been floating around and had to spend a few days to recover.

We've launched our website and are officially incorporated!


... and with that let's go over the progress on Snowglobe!


 

Project: Snowglobe


While we were on vacation, David went all-out making props and renders!


The Front-End UI has gone through another pass and is looking very bright and happy. We made design changes to the Level Select screen widget language, and the game now saves your progress by keeping track of the # of Stars collected as well as best completion time.



Audio has also been added -- a first pass on both BGM and UI SFX!


Steady progress is being made on the Mechanics front -- we've now got forward bumpers and boost pads, as well as a health system (3 hearts).






With the addition of health, we now have a Level-failed state!



David's done an absolutely amazing job dressing up our different Zones!





So... What's The Plan?

Our general plan for the next month (April) is to get all the planned level mechanics, character customization and level unlock systems working, so that we can spend all of May creating levels, fixing bugs and polishing the game. On the Art front, we'll begin to explore penguin animations and VFX.


 

Month 3 Changelist

UI

• level select screen widgets now display best times and total stars collected

• level select widgets reflect level completion state (green=100% blue=completed purple=unplayed grey=locked)

• postgame screen separated into fail and success state widgets

• credits screen updated

• health widget created

• UI SFX initial pass completed

• BGM added to main menu

• fixed build-only bugs with restart and next level button


In-Game

• progression/completion save and load state working

• delete save button added (temporarily in main menu screen)

• 'health' added - 3 lives before fail screen appears

• mushroom bumper physics updated

• forward bumper functionality added

• boost pad functionality added

• BGM music added per zone

• refactored load/restart/next level streaming


Art

• created props for all zones

• worked on skies and lighting for all zones

• completed post-effects passes for all zones

• worked on website

• added sparkle shader to the snow

• created sand materials

• added particle to pickup

• created additional UI assets

• cleaned up UI layouts

• produced numerous renders for the game, website, and UI

• created marketing assets and templates
